On Monday, February 10, 2025, as part of sweeping cuts to the U.S. Education Department and federal education grant programs, the We the People: Civics that Empowers All Students program from the Center for Civic Education was terminated. This program actively engages over 17,000 students and 310 teachers nationwide – including many educators and students from Maryland and the District of Columbia.
MCCHE through the Center for Civic Education has made long-term organizational plans based on the full faith and credit of these congressionally allocated funds. With such cuts and continued threats to education in our country, we are at risk of being unable to maintain the implementation of all activities critical to our mission.
