MCCHE partnered with the Center for Civic Education to offer We the People: Civics that Empowers All Students. This program is a federally funded project that supports effective educator development. Research demonstrates that effective instruction in the We the People curriculum increases students’ problem-solving, critical-thinking, decision-making, and communication skills. All are essential to academic success across disciplines and 21st-century career and civic life. Students gain a greater sense of belonging, understanding of their community and government, and literacy skills as they engage in collaboration, dialogue, reading, writing, presentation, and reflection in our We the People civic education curriculum.
In July 2025, MCCHE conducted its second annual CEAS summer institute hosting 25 elementary and middle school educators from Maryland and the District in historic Annapolis for a week of professional learning. Guided by mentor teachers, the participants took a deep dive into the constitutional principles found in the We the People curriculum through lesson demonstrations, pedagogy practices and collaborative experiences which culminated in a simulated congressional hearing. Participants will continue to receive professiona learning throughout the year as they head back to the classroom to implement their own We the People program.
